Frostburg State University senior Wesley Corbett will perform his senior tenor recital on Saturday, March 27, at 8 PM in the Performing Arts Center’s Pealer Recital Hall. Corbett will be accompanied by pianist Nancy Witmer. This event is free and open to the public.
Corbett will perform several pieces written by composers Stefano Donaudy, Ludvig van Beethoven, Ralph Vaughan Williams, Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, and John P. Sacco.
A music education major at FSU, Corbett hopes to become an elementary school music teacher on graduation. He is a member of the President’s Leadership Circle, Delta Omicron, and Music Educators National Conference and is on the Dean’s List. Corbett expects to complete his degree in May 2010. March events at the New Embassy Theatre to be held for one night only include a rescheduled Broadway salute titled “Make ‘Em Laugh!” on Friday, March 26, an all-ages mid-week band night on Tuesday, March 16, and a special musical show with reigning Queen of Queen City Alyssa Matthews on Friday, March 12 at 8 PM. Doors open at 7:30 PM for environmental fun in a space created for the festivities called “The Lavender Lounge” in the 1931 Art Deco restored movie house at 49 Baltimore Street. The event is for an adult crowd, with entertainment provided by area performers and former Queen City alternative pageant winners Stephanie Michaels and Mona Lott. There is a cover charge of $9 at the door.

Liza Featherstone, a journalist based in New York City, will visit Frostburg State University to discuss her work on social justice activism, gender and the workplace, as well as politics and consumerism, the theme of a forthcoming book, on Tuesday, March 23 and Wednesday, March 24 in room 218 Dunkle Hall. The FSU-TV3 production LEAD-TV will also feature an interactive interview with Featherstone on Tuesday, from 7 to 8 PM that will invite audience members to ask her questions about activism, politics, journalism and issues impacting students, such as the affordability of higher education. The event is free and open to the public.

Save the Date for the Cabin Fever Fundraiser The third annual Cabin Fever Fundraiser to benefit Friends of New Germany and Savage River Watershed Association will be held from 4 to 7 PM on Saturday March 27th at New Germany State Park. The entrance fee covers an evening of homemade soups, breads and desserts, plus door prizes and live music by the Sugar Foot Stompers. There will also be a 50-50 raffle and a silent auction where individuals can bid on a variety of fine items and services.
