Frostburg State University’s Department of Theatre and Dance will once again present something for everyone during its 2016-17 season lineup – an adventure tale, a beloved children’s fantasy, a Christmas holiday ghost story, a Civil War drama, an 18th-century British comedy and two student dance concerts with original choreography.

The season kicks off with “Around the World in 80 Days,” the classic adventure tale by French writer Jules Verne. Grab your passports and climb aboard for a whirlwind trip around the world! It’s 1872 and the eccentric and wealthy Phileas Fogg figures, with mathematical precision, that he can circumnavigate the globe in just 80 days. And he wagers half his fortune to prove it. Red, White and Bluegrass will be held on the BB&T Stage at Canal Place on Saturday, September 10, at 8 pm and will feature local band Grand Ole’ Ditch.

 

grandoleditchGrand Ole' Ditch began as a home-brewed bluegrass band, deriving their name from an important piece of Western Maryland history: Chesapeake and Ohio Canal. The Canal, nicknamed the Grand Old Ditch, carried coal from the Allegheny Mountains to the East Coast during the late 19th and early 20th centuries. Bluegrass told the story of the people of this era, and was an essential part of their culture.

Midtown MenCES at Frostburg State University will present The Midtown Men, four stars from the original cast of Broadway’s “Jersey Boys,” on Thursday, Sept. 22, at 7:30 p.m. in the Alice R. Manicur Assemble Hall in FSU’s Lane University Center. Performing with a live band, The Midtown Men will celebrate the classic tunes that defined the ’60s.

Tony Award winner Christian Hoff, Michael Longoria, Daniel Reichard and Tony Award nominee J. Robert Spencer shared the Broadway stage for more than 1,000 performances. Now, they reunite for a delightful concert-style production that features top-shelf choreography, incredible vocal performances and undeniable onstage chemistry.

GodspellJRApple Alley Players, in partnership with the Embassy Theatre, will present GODSPELL JR from August 11-14The shows on Thursday, Friday and Saturday are at 7:30 pm, and Sunday's matinee is slated for 2:30 pm.

"These encore performances resulted from outstanding enthusiasm generated at an earlier run this summer at Larenim Park Amphitheatre, Burlington, WV, " states Embassy public relations director Trish Morgan.
