Todd Davis, environmentalist and author of five poetry collections, will present a reading from his latest book, “Winterfell,” on Saturday, April 9, at 3 p.m. at Mountain City Traditional Arts, 25 E. Main St. in Frostburg. The reading is free and open to the public, hosted by MCTA and Frostburg State University Center for Literary Arts.

Davis teaches environmental studies, creative writing and American literature at Pennsylvania State University’s Altoona College. He is also a fellow of the Black Earth Institute, a community of artists and scholars seeking to create a more ethical world. FSU to Celebrate Musical Talent With Honors Recital PDF Print E-mail

Frostburg State University’s Department of Music will showcase stand-out student performers in an Honors Recital on Saturday, April 16, at7:30 p.m. in the Pealer Recital Hall of FSU’s Performing Arts Center. This event is free and open to the public.

The Honors Recital will feature group performances by the FSU Vocal Jazz Ensemble, directed by Dr. James M. Reddan, and the FSU String Ensemble, directed by Lu Liu, as well as performances by a number of individual students.

The program will feature Christian Dohler Rodas on flute, performing Eugene Bozza’s “Image pour flute seule.” Pianist Michael Lundien will perform Oliver Messiaen’s “First Communion of the Virgin Mary,” and violinist Wesley Manson will play Georg Philipp Telemann’s “Fantasia in ...

Savvy hip hop artists have learned to be their own brand by leveraging the power of Instagram, Snapchat, Facebook and other social media platforms to build audiences and communicate directly to their followers in lieu of traditional channels.

FSU Center for Literary Arts Word and Image Project Now Accepting Submissions PDF Print E-mail

Frostburg State University’s Center for Literary Arts is open to submissions for its fourth annual Word and Image Project. Regional artists are invited to submit visual art that incorporates some or all of the text of a poem.

The Word and Image Project features a juried art exhibition, which will be on display on Sunday, April 10, from 2 to 7 p.m. at Dante’s Pub and Arts, 14 W. Main St., as part of the annual Rock ’n’ Read event. The show will be juried by CLA Center Director Gerry LaFemina.

Submitted work should be artistic prints of individual poems or any visual representation of poetic text. Art may include paintings, drawings, illustrations, photographs, sculpture and more.

opencontainer According to the dictionary, the term “hooley” is defined as a noisy, merry party.  And that’s what Downtown Cumberland and the surrounding area turn into on Saturday, March 12, as Cumberland celebrates the 18th annual St. Paddy’s Day Hooley Pub Crawl.

“The Hooley was the brainchild of the Shanty Irish and was an immediate success.  They are still an integral part of the celebration”, commented Jennifer Light with the Downtown Development Commission “and it just seems to grow in popularity every year.

This year’s Hooley has several participating restaurants, clubs, bars and pubs.  The Hooley Trolley will be available to transport crawlers from place to place from 2 to 8 p.m.
