Well-Strung 1Student Activities, in collaboration with CES at Frostburg State University, will open the spring On the EDGE series at FSU with the string quartet Well-Strung on Thursday, March 3, at 8:15 p.m. in the Lane University Center’s Alice R. Manicur Assembly Hall.

A New York City-based all-male quartet, Well-Strung derives its unique blend of vocals and strings by fusing classical music with the pop music of today. In its review, the New York Times said the group “brilliantly fuses pop and classical music from Madonna to Beethoven.”

Frostburg State University student Bonnie Brashear will present her junior flute recital, accompanied by Dr. Jay DeWire on piano, onSaturday, Feb. 27, at 7 p.m. in the Pealer Recital Hall of FSU’s Performing Arts Center. The event is free and open to the public.

Brashear’s performance will feature a mix of classical works and lively 20th-century compositions, including “Sonata in C Major” by C.P.E. Bach, “Fantasia in E Minor” by Georg Philipp Telemann, “Sonata for Flute and Piano” by Robert Muczynski, “The Great Train Race” by Ian Clarke and “Sonate pout Flûte et Piano” by Francis Poulenc.

FSU Student’s Junior Recital to Mix Tradition and Video Games PDF Print E-mail

Frostburg State University student Garrett Yoder will present his junior guitar recital, accompanied by guest guitarists Greg Hays and Charlie Engleka, on Sunday, Feb. 28, at 7 p.m. in the Pealer Recital Hall of FSU’s Performing Arts Center. The performance is free and open to the public.

The recital will include a unique blend of traditional pieces and selections from popular video game soundtracks. Yoder will begin the recital with “La Rose” and “La Tarantella” by Mauro Giulian, “Usher Waltz” by Nikita Koshkin, “Julia Florida” by Agustin Barrios and “Yamour” by Andrew York. Yoder will be joined by Hays for “Dragonborn,” the main theme from “The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim,” and Engleka will join in for a suite of themes from the ...

In honor of his birthday, Frostburg State University’s chapter of Sigma Tau Delta, the English Honor Society, will host a reading of the works of beloved children’s author Dr. Seuss on Saturday, March 5, from 2 to 3:30 p.m. at Main Street Books, 2 E. Main St., Frostburg. This event is free and open to the public.

With fantastical illustrations and quirky rhymes, Dr. Seuss’ books have been beloved in children’s literature for many years. The event, directed toward elementary-aged children, will include crafts and a small raffle.

It’s the annual Sweetheart Luncheon and Auction at the First Presbyterian Church.
