The Embassy Theatre, a renovated Art Deco movie theatre built in 1931, and located on the Downtown Cumberland Mall at 49 Baltimore Street, will continue to host Open Mic Nights on Sunday evenings, 6-10 pm.

Those interested in performing are asked to sign up for a time slot upon arrival. There is no cover charge, and theatre cafe manager Trish Jankey will have the full cash bar open for business.

The Embassy provides three vocal mics, two music stands, guitar amplifier, drum kit, bass guitar and acoustic guitar, if needed.

This Saturday, July 16, the Embassy Theatre will be showcasing Nine Fathoms Deep, with Chester Dabrowski, and accompanied by the Illumiknights. Doors open at 7 pm, with the show kicking off at 8 pm.

Equal parts symphony and thrash, Nine Fathoms Deep hails from western Maryland, and has been working tirelessly to bring music that the area didn't know it needed so badly, according to a spokesman for the group.

This five man group brings a new sound to the local metal scene that has been described as "darkly theatrical" and "the essence of industrial, rejuvenated." Each member pulls from a wide variety of influences, from early power metal to progressive - coming together in a performance that combines punishing sound with dark storytelling.

seven year itch poster Frostburg's Palace Theatre brings the classic romantic comedy The Seven Year Itch to the screen on Monday, July 18 .  Starring Marilyn Monroe and Tom Ewell, this 1955 film includes the iconic subway grate scene of Monroe's dress blown into the air by a passing train.  Directed by Billy Wilder, the movie has running time of 105 minutes and in color.  The Seven Year Itch is part of The Palace's Women Take The Lead summer comedy series sponsored by Main Street Books.
 
Doors open at 7:00 pm with showtime at 7:30 pm.  Ticket prices are the same for all ages.  The bar and concession start serving at 7:00 pm.

Justin WilsonA juicy chipotle mushroom burger created by Frostburg State University’s executive chef Justin Wilson could send him to the prestigious James Beard Foundation in New York.

FSU’s burger isn’t your typical mushroom burger, explains Wilson, of Uniontown, Pa., chef for FSU’s Dining Services provider Chartwells.

Restaurant chefs call the burger “The Blend” because mushrooms are placed in a food processor combined with ground beef. It helps elevate the burger profile.

“It actually adds a nice texture to it that you wouldn’t think of,” Wilson says. “It makes it moist, and you wouldn't know the mushrooms are in there unless I told you.”
