CES at Frostburg State University continues its 60th anniversary season with a spring lineup of award-winning musicians and professional artists from around the world. Performers include French songstress Cyrille Aimée, contemporary violinist Daniel Davis, the Buddhist monks of the Drepung Loseling Monastery, the a cappella group The Filharmonic, the Irish musicians of the Brock McGuire Band, jazz musician Dr. Lonnie Smith, and Russian pianist Yuliya Gorenman, who will join the Maryland Symphony Orchestra in a celebration of Beethoven.

CUMBERLAND—From January 4 through January 28 the Allegany Arts Council will host its third public art experience, Start to Finish III, at the Saville Gallery at 9 N. Centre Street in Cumberland. During this event artist members of the Arts Council will use the gallery as an open studio to create artwork. The public is encouraged to visit the gallery to watch artists at work. The gallery is open from 11 am to 5 pm daily except for Sundays and Mondays.

 

This year, participants include Donna Godlove, Pat Peacock, Dominique Vallon, Patricia Wilt and Chris Sloan. ArrowettesEmbassy Theatre, located at 49 Baltimore Street on the Downtown Mall, will present "Arrowettes Christmas Extravaganza" Saturday and Sunday, Dec 17 and 18, at 7 pm both performances.
 
According to Shannon Leith Martz, advisor, these shows will be Rockette-inspired Christmas shows, featuring the Allegany High School Arrowettes. They will be performing a variety of dance and kick routines with a Christmas theme. "It will be festival and fun!" adds Ms. Martz.
 
There will be tickets sold at both performances for chances to win a gift basket filled with goodies from Spa at Nemacolin, valued at $300.

A colorful collection of ensembles and musical groups from the Frostburg State University Department of Music will join forces to present their sixth annual Holiday Concert on Sunday, Dec. 11, at 3 p.m. in the Pealer Recital Hall of FSU’s Performing Arts Center.

The Vocal Jazz Ensemble, Chamber Singers and University Chorale will be conducted by Dr. James Reddan. The ensemble will perform the big band classic “Tuxedo Junction,” made famous by the Glenn Miller Orchestra, as arranged by Kirby Shaw, and the classic English Christmas carol “What Child Is This,” arranged by Darmon Meader.

The Chamber Singers have selected the popular American song “Hard Times Come Again No More” by Stephen Foster, arranged by Mark Keller, which was a favorite of both ...
