With spring clean up time and the start of the gardening season, for the convenience of Allegany County residents, the Allegany County Compost Site will start the spring and summer hours of operation on April 1, the first Wednesday in April. The compost site will be open five days per week, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, Saturday, and Sunday, from 10:00 a.m. to

6:00 p.m.


NOTE: The compost site is regularly scheduled to operate 3 days a week under the winter schedule which is in effect through Tuesday, March 31: Tuesday, Thursday, and Saturday, from 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.

Allegany College of Maryland highlights wide-ranging opportunities Saturday, April 11, when it hosts an open house combining important education and career information with the chance to win valuable tuition assistance.


This 18th annual event, from 9 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. on the Cumberland campus, showcases ACM’s numerous credit programs in career and transfer areas. The college is known for quality education delivered at reasonable cost at convenient locations.


ACM offers more than 60 career programs designed for prompt application in the workplace. There are also nearly three dozen transfer programs, which prepare graduates to continue their studies at four-year colleges.

Easter Peter Cottontail and his bunny buddy, Chocolate are making a special trip for a fun-filled Easter breakfast celebration on Saturday, March 28 from 9-11 am at Windsor Castle Events Centre, 210 S. Centre Street in Downtown Cumberland. Breakfast with the Easter Bunnies is sponsored by the Downtown Cumberland Business Association.

Jeff Ford Hi ResThe Frostburg State University Center for Creative Writing will host a reading by mystery, science fiction and fantasy writer Jeffrey Ford as part of its spring 2015 reading series. This event is free and open to the public and will be held on Thursday, March 26, at 7:30 p.m. on the third floor of FSU’s Lewis J. Ort Library.
