The George’s Creek Watershed Association (GCWA) will be participating in a nationwide push to honor 9/11 volunteers and celebrate community service on September 11, 2009 at 6 PM at the Westernport Town Hall.

Mr. Paul Kazyak from the Maryland Department of Natural Resources and the Highlands Action Program will give a presentation on various ways to conserve energy in our everyday lives, renewable energy, and incentives available, followed by some hands-on demonstrations featuring the latest in lighting, solar hot water systems, insulating, and more.

Tree seedlings for backyard plantings and rain barrel raffle tickets will available to attendees.

This event is inspired by the Edward M. Kennedy Serve America Act which, for the first time, officially recognizes September 11 as a National Day of Service and Remembrance.  For more information go to www.serve.gov.
