As part of its commitment to sustainability, the Learning Green, Living Green initiative of Frostburg State University will host the Symposium, Awakening the Dreamer: Changing the Dream, Sunday, October 11 from 1 - 4 PM in the Lane University Center.  The session is free and open to the public for ages 13 and above.  Designed to encourage serious reflection that can spur individuals to action, the symposium explores the current environmental, social, and economic state of our planet and connects participants with a powerful global movement to redirect and reclaim our future.

Awakening the Dreamer Symposiums are gaining ground on a global level.  Sessions have been held in the USA, Canada, France, and Switzerland and the movement continues to gain momentum.  Symposium organizers identify as their vision the goal “to bring forth an environmentally sustainable, spiritually fulfilling and socially just human presence on this planet.”  The intensive interactive symposium is designed to “awaken and inspire people to take action in pursuit of this vision of a fair, peaceful, and sustainable future.”

“The aim of the Symposium is to grapple and come to grips with the very assumptions that underlie the way we ourselves see the world and our place in it, and with what each of us can do - both individually and cooperatively - to move the world in this new direction.”

Through dynamic group interactions, leading edge information, and inspiring multimedia, participants of this half-day event are inspired to reconnect with their deep concern for our world, and are empowered to make a difference.

Designed with the collaboration of some of the finest scientific, indigenous, and activist minds in the world, the Symposium explores the current state of our planet from a new perspective, and connects participants with a powerful global movement to reclaim our future.

The initiative is an outgrowth of the Pachamama Alliance – a US-based, not-for-profit organization that was born out of a relationship developed between a group of US residents and the leaders of remote indigenous groups in the Amazon region of Ecuador.  Press materials for the alliance explain that the alliance was, “actually initiated by the indigenous elders and shamans themselves who, out of their deep concern for the growing threat to their ancient way of life, and their recognition that the roots of this threat lay far beyond their rainforest home, actively sought the partnership of committed individuals living in the modern world.”

With this in mind, the Symposium is designed to foster widespread public support for social justice and environmental sustainability.  For more information call (301) 687-4210 or email This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it .
