Woody The City of Frostburg has been recognized as a Maryland Smart Energy Community by the Maryland Energy Administration.  In order to be designated a Maryland Smart Energy Community, the Frostburg Mayor and City Council have committed to reduce electricity consumption in City-owned facilities by 15% in 5 years and source 20% of the energy for those facilities from renewable energy sources by 2022. As a Maryland Smart Energy Community, the City is eligible to apply for grant funding for efficiency upgrades and/or renewable energy projects.

Department investigating new but unconfirmed information relating to case, as precaution anglers advised to avoid eating fish from area as investigation continues

Baltimore, MD (November 14, 2015) – The Maryland Department of the Environment  is continuing its investigation of a fish kill in the upper Middle River and several of the river’s tributaries in Baltimore County.

The Department has become aware of citizen concerns relating to a possible discharge into the waters in the area of the fish kill. The Department will investigate these concerns. Observatory 2The universe is now coming into focus through Frostburg State University’s Observatory, where stunning images from the rooftop observatory are now being projected on the FSU Planetarium and Multimedia Learning Center’s dome screen during shows.

The Observatory, located on the roof of the Gira Center for Communications and Information Technology, features a robotically mounted 14-inch Schmidt-Cassegrain telescope with attachable cameras to capture deep space images and planets in amazing detail.

“Its large aperture allows you to view very faint objects,” said Dr. Jason Speights, associate director of the FSU Planetarium and MLC. “At the same time, it’s capable of high magnification, so the planets can be seen in great detail.”

Notice is hereby given that the Allegany County Board of Zoning Appeals will continue a public hearing on Friday, November 13th at 9 am in the County Commissioner's Meeting Room, County Office Complex, 701 Kelly Road, Cumberland, MD, regarding Dans Mountain Wind Force L.L.C. et. al., Cases 942 and 943. The board is currently in recess. The board has ordered the public record held "open" for a ten day period for the purpose of accepting additional written comment(s). The board will reconvene on the scheduled date and further execute proceedings as prescribed by Law.

The November 13th Hearing is open to the public. Anyone desiring further information on these Cases may contact the County's Land Development Office at 301-777-5951.

Frostburg State University is preparing to welcome alumni for Homecoming from Thursday, Oct. 15, to Sunday, Oct. 18, a weekend filled with fun events that past, present and even future students can attend to show off some of their Bobcat pride.

The weekend will kick off Thursday at noon as retired FSU employees are welcomed back for a luncheon, followed at 7 p.m. with the annual pep rally, where the 2015 Homecoming King and Queen will be crowned in the Main Arena of the Cordts Physical Education Center.

Friday’s events start off early at 9 a.m. with the Career Expo, where FSU alumni will give presentations across campus allowing students to explore career possibilities. That afternoon, from 1 to 4 p.m. at the Stephanie Ann Roper Gallery in the Fine Arts building, art ...
