Activities for Life at Frostburg State University will be holding a beginner’s tumbling class for children between the ages five and twelve from October 17 through November 14 in the Cordts Physical Education Center, room 170. The class will meet from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. on Mondays and will be taught by Eugene Younger, Sam Cody and Emily Murray.

The class will include basic floor tumbling exercises and some work on the low balance beam. The registration deadline is Thursday, October 13. The class has a limit of 15 participants, with a minimum of seven.

A lifeguard certification class is being offered through Frostburg State University’s Activities for Life. The classes will be instructed by Dr. Troy Strieby and will be held from October 2 to 10 in the Cordts Physical Education Center pool. The deadline for registration and payment is September 29. Participants must be at least 15 years old before the conclusion of the classes.

Lifeguard students are required to have strong swimming skills and should be able to complete a series of prerequisites on the first day of class, including a 300-yard continuous swim using a combination of front crawl and breast stroke, as well as be able to perform an underwater retrieval technique. The Frostburg State University Activities for Life program will offer various tumbling classes for children ranging in age from 3 and up on Mondays, beginning Sept. 12. All classes will be held in Cordts Physical Education Center room 170.

The preschool class is for children ages 3 and 4 and is limited to 12 students with little or no formal tumbling training. It will be conducted through Nov. 14 from 5 to 5:30 p.m. The class will include activities such as cartwheels, rolls and other simple movements. It is designed to teach flexibility, strength, muscle control and coordination. This class requires a parent to participate with each child.

Beth Piver will host an intermediate to advanced level hoop workshop on the 2nd floor of 9 N. Centre Street on Sunday, September 11, from 9 a.m. to noon. This class is for hoopers who have some basic hooping experience, as well as those who have more experience but would like to learn tricks & technique. Come join us for a great way to exercise, relieve stress, and have a whole bunch of fun! Registration is limited to six hoopers (adults only, please) and the fee is $25/person.
