Allegany County residents Christina Crites, Sharon Ellsworth, Ray Hunt, Angel Schultz, Jason Pannone and others are among the dozen or so runners and walkers pre-registered for the free Run for Gold 26.2K and relay run/walk this Sunday, August 12 on the Great Allegheny Passage.
Locally, the event services as a chance for runners and walkers to catch the Olympic spirit this weekend along the Great Allegheny Passage by participating in the 26.2-kilometer run and relay. 
The event, a participant's choice of either a competition or a training run, begins near the Meyersdale trailhead and goes point-to-point along the Great Allegheny Passage. The route will end atop the switchbacks at the Frostburg (Md.) Depot.

A Pre-Screening of The Other Side of the Glass will be at the Allegany Arts Council 9 N. Allegany College of Maryland again presents its evening series of the latest in medical information -- Mini-Med School -- Tuesdays in May.

Everyone is invited to attend this free program from 6:00 to 8:30 p.m. May 1, 8, 15 and 22 in the Robert Zimmer Theatre in the College Center.

You don’t need a scientific background for this medical school, just a desire to learn more about what’s happening in health and medicine. This year’s program features local experts on issues affecting local families.

Topics include sports-related traumatic brain injury; diabetes self-empowerment and management; addictions identification, treatment and prevention, including gambling addiction and smoking; new diagnostic radiology techniques; cardiac rehabilitation and more.
